Type: Exhibition
Location: Venice, Italy
Located within the historic San Salvador convent complex in Venice’s Rialto district, the Future Center is a dynamic conference and exhibition space undergoing phased renovation. This project marks the first phase, where contemporary design meets centuries-old architecture dating back to the 11th century.
Rather than concealing the historic surroundings, the design amplifies them by introducing a dramatic, light-filled intervention. A ribbed steel structure, inspired by shipbuilding techniques, supports custom laser-cut metal panels. These panels, each uniquely perforated, draw inspiration from the intricate glass mosaics found in Venetian palaces. As light filters through them, the structure appears to dematerialize, becoming both screen and sculpture, framing and honoring the ancient architecture beyond.
Fabricated and pre-assembled in Rome, the entire installation was dismantled, transported by boat through Venice’s canals, and reassembled on-site with minimal disruption.
